Democratic candidate Rick Wood is kicking off his fall general election campaign for the state Senate with a Public Education Rally on Saturday, Sept. 13, in the auditorium of West Henderson High School.

The Elect Rick Wood Senate Committee announced the rally, which starts at 11 a.m. Senate District 48, held by six-term incumbent Tom Apodaca, includes all of Henderson and Transylvania counties and parts of southern Buncombe County.

A two-term member of the Henderson County School Board, Wood is a retired teacher and basketball coach with more than 40 years of public school experience who is basing the heart of his campaign on public education.

His campaign committee said the rally is a show of support for all public school teachers, teacher assistants, principals, administrators, school system personnel and students. Everyone interested in the future of public education is invited to attend.
