Smith wins mayoral contest

By Bill Moss, Published: November 4, 2026

Former Hendersonville City Council member Jerry Smith defeated Jennifer Hensley, the current mayor pro tem, as the former lawyer-turned school teacher-turned lawyer again rode a strong Democratic tide to victory in the mid-term election.

With all precincts reporting, Smith captured 55% of the vote to become the first new Hendersonville mayor since 2009, when Barbara Volk won the first of her four terms.
