A native of Lexington, Sink served 31 years in the community college system. He was president of Roanoke Chowan Community College for five years until he came to lead the Hendersonville campus.

A Vietnam War era veteran, he has been active in professional and civic organizations at the local, state and national level. He earned an undergraduate degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and a doctorate from Virginia Tech. Among his hobbies are playing the piano, reading American history, visiting major league baseball stadiums with his son, riding a Harley Davidson Bad Boy and playing with grandchildren.

He recently came out of retirement to open a new Meineke Car Care Center in Leland, outside of Wilmington.

A Democrat, Sink lists a dozen issues of concern to voters. The first three are on school safety and gun control. He says he would “recognize that common sense gun control does not dilute one’s Second Amendment rights, arm school personnel with adequate supplies and resources, not guns, and address school safety needs by offering special training for law enforcement officers and in university teacher education programs.” He also called for paying teachers “at least the national average,” funding mental health, expanding Medicaid and creating a bipartisan redistricting process.
