Griffin and seven other WNC sheriffs endorse King for Congress

Wayne King, who is seeking nomination for the 11th Congressional District seat, won the endorsement from Henderson County Sheriff Lowell Griffin and seven other Republican sheriffs in Western North Carolina sheriffs, the candidate announced.

King, the deputy chief of staff and top North Carolina-based aide for U.S. Rep. Mark Meadows, is among 19 candidates who signed up to run for the seat, including 12 Republicans, after Meadows' surprise announcement Thursday morning that he would not seek re-election.

"Wayne King is a supporter of law enforcement," Griffin said in a statement. "As a matter of fact, Wayne has public service experience and is a supporter of all the men and women providing emergency services to us. Wayne has worked in the 11th District continually meeting and listening to the people. Wayne is familiar with the issues and concerns of the district which will allow him to hit the ground running. Wayne will work hard in representing the people of our district with the conservative values that make our area one of the greatest places to live and work in the world."

Also endorsingKing were Avery County Sheriff Kevin Frye, Graham County Sheriff Joseph Jones, McDowell County Sheriff Ricky Buchanan, Mitchell County Sheriff Donald Street, Rutherford County Sheriff Chris Francis, Transylvania County Sheriff David Mahoney and Yancey County Sheriff Gary Banks.
“I am honored and humbled that some of the first people to offer their support and endorsement of my campaign are these eight sheriffs,” King said in a statement. “I have had the privilege of working closely with each of them and admire their dedication and hard work on behalf of the people of Western North Carolina. I value their friendship and share their passion for keeping our citizens safe. I will always stand with our sheriffs and all law enforcement agencies across the 11th Congressional District.”
