Republicans pull even with Democrats in turnout

Early voting ends at 3 p.m. today. One of the sites is Flat Rock Village Hall.

With hours remaining before early voting ends, Henderson County has achieved a 62 percent voter turnout, slightly above the turnout statewide of 59 percent. Through Friday 44,773 Henderson County voters had cast ballots.

Statewide, 4.3 million voters had cast ballots through mail-in or early one-stop voting — 1.4 million more than at the same period four years ago. The early advantage the Democratic Party had over the GOP in turnout has vanished. Both parties had the same turnout statewide, at 62 percent, while the Democrats held a 38 to 32 percent lead in the portion of the total vote each party represented. Unaffiliated voters made up 30 percent of the total votes cast in North Carolina.
