Eight juniors selected for prestigious Governor's School

Eight high shool students from Henderson County have been selected to attend the highly respected North Carolina Governor's School, the oldest statewide summer residential program for gifted and talented high school students in the nation.

 

The six-week program, open to rising juniors except for some underclassmen in the arts, takes place at Salem College in Winston-Salem and at Meredith College in Raleigh. Once state-sponsored, the program is now funded by Governor's School alumni and foundations.

Selected for Governor's School East were:

Ada Morava, East Henderson, math.

Jordan T. Tripp, EHHS, instrumental music, tuba.

Zoe R. Holmes, Hendersonville, French.

Andrew W. Legg, HHS, social science.

Governor's School West:

Sarah A. Boyette, HHS, English.

Monique E. LaBorde, HHS, Spanish.

Mallory L. Carnes, West Henderson, instrumental music, viola.

Zachary L. Younger, WHHS, math.
