The Blue Ridge Symphonic Brass will perform a Winter Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 900 Blythe St.
The program of works for brass, conducted by Cole Hairston, is free and open to the public, with donations accepted. The concert is sponsored by Janice Kimball, with a reception following the concert sponsored by Premier Brass and Voisin Enterprises. Tempo Music is the season music sponsor.
Hairston has designed a program that will offer a variety of music to usher in the winter season, including "Processional Fanfare" by British composer Elgar Howarth, a beautiful brass arrangement of Eric Whitacre’s "October" (originally a choral selection), Tchesnokoff’s majestic "Salvation Is Created," J.S. Bach’s "Air" from Orchestral Suite No. 3, and "Suite for Brass Choir" by James Riley. A bit of holiday cheer will be offered by several brass quintets from within the group performing Christmas selections, plus a special arrangement of the Advent hymn "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" for the trumpet section, arranged by BRSB trumpeter Peter Voisin.
The Blue Ridge Symphonic Brass, featuring instruments found in a symphony orchestra’s brass section, is dedicated to bringing the symphonic brass repertoire to music patrons in our communities. The BRSB features outstanding musicians from the Brevard, Hendersonville, Asheville and Greenville. S.C., areas. Hairston, director of bands at Brevard College, joined the BRSB as conductor earlier this season.
