Shriners to host bicycler pedaling to Boston

John Nightingale and his wife and family will stop at the Historic Courthouse in Hendersonville on his way to Boston. He making the ride to raise money for Shriners hospitals.

The father of a 4-year-old girl treated at a Shriners hospital will ride through Hendersonville on Friday as part of a 1,900-mile fundraising trip.


Graysen Nightingale, of Flintstone, Ga., was diagnosed last year with Infantile Idiopathic Scoliosis, a sideways curvature of the spine. Her mother, Susan, researched her daughter's condition and ultimately found the Greenville Shriners Hospital in December 2013. Susan and John Nightingale were so impressed by the wonderful services their daughter received that they created Pedal for Pennies, a fundraiser for Shriners hospitals.
John Nightingale is bicycling from Chattanooga, Tenn., to Boston, covering 1,885 miles in 45 days and stopping at seven Shriners hospitals along the way. His ride on Friday will take him to Hendersonville's Main Street, where the Hendersonville Shrine Club will host a celebration in front of the courthouse at 5 p.m. To help support Pedal for Pennies or for more information on John's journey, visit www.pedalforpennies.com.
