Apple Festival names this year's Apple Ambasssador

Margaret Butler, a rising senior at Hendersonville High School, has been named the 2012 North Carolina Apple Ambassador.

The award also entitles her to a $2,000 college scholarship. Margaret is the daughter of David and Lindsey Butler.
This year's runner-up and winner of a $1,000 scholarship is Jilliam Heywood, the daughter of Tom and Helen Heywood and a rising senior at West Henderson High School.
The Apple Ambassador represents the Apple Festival during the four-day celebration over Labor Day weekend and at other events across the region. Each year the Festival selects its Ambassador from rising high school seniors. Students are required to submit their transcripts, list of activities and letters of recommendation and write an essay on the Apple Festival and the importance of the apple industry to this area. The Apple Ambassador is selected based on this information and through an interview process.
The Apple Ambassador also wins the Evelyn Lutz Hill Memorial Scholarship, in honor of Ms. Hill, who served as the Secretary of the North Carolina Apple Growers for many years. She was serving as the President of the North Carolina Apple Festival when she passed away in 2004.
