Apple Festival adds bike ride to orchards

The North Carolina Apple Festival and the Cooperative Extension have added a bike ride to apple orchards to the festival activities this year.

Bike riders will meet at Sycamore Cycles in downtown Hendersonville at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. start. After 6-mile bike ride over rolling hills and back roads through apple country, riders will view the extension service's Apple Variety Block in Dana. After enjoying some apple snacks and a tour of the experimental orchard, bike riders will tour another orchard and then ride back to Main Street and the Apple Festival. To ensure the safety of all participants, Hendersonville police will provide a motorcycle escort.
Sycamore Cycles, the event sppnsor, is at the corner of Third Avenue East and King Street, one block east of Main Street in Downtown Hendersonville.
Registration is $20 per person (benefits the extension service's pomology program). Registration is due at the extension office by Aug. 27.

Checks should be made payable to NCCES and mailed or dropped off at 100 Jackson Park Road, Hendersonville, NC 28792.
