United Way opens signup for 'Day of Caring'

The United Way of Henderson County will hold its annual Day of Caring on Friday Sept. 14.

Volunteer registration for teams and individuals is open now through Sept. 7. Volunteers may register and select their projects online at liveunitedhc.org.

Day of Caring is an opportunity for community members to come together to improve the lives of others in Henderson County by volunteering their time, talent, and muscle. UWHC coordinates volunteer teams from locals business, schools and government as they donate their time to work for local non-profits on half or full-day projects at their office locations, client homes, or local schools.

More details for project coordinators and a complete timeline for the 2012 UWHC Day of Caring are available online at liveunitedhc.org, or by calling 692-1636.

"We cannot overemphasize the impact that volunteers make on our community," said Ruth Birge, Executive Director of UWHC. "Anyone can be a volunteer, and Day of Caring is a great introduction to the wide variety of opportunities that exist for those who want to make a difference in Henderson County."

Day of Caring is a free volunteer opportunity and immediately follows the 2012 Campaign Kick-Off at the Technology Center at Blue Ridge Community College. Both events are made possible through generous sponsorship by Pardee Hospital.

Non-profits may still register projects at liveunitedhc.org. Participating organizations must be a 501(c)3 agency, local school, or government agency. Projects must fulfill a real and tangible need for the agency and matched volunteers must gain measurable satisfaction or accomplishment from participating in the project. All submitted project proposals are subject to review and evaluation by UWHC staff. Agencies do not have to be a funded partner of UWHC in order to participate in Day of Caring.
