Governor reappoints Eisenhauer to N.C. cancer committee

Pardee UNC Health Care surgeon Thomas Eisenhauer has been reappointed by Gov. Roy Cooper to the North Carolina Advisory Committee on Cancer Coordination and Control.

 

Hendersonville Mayor Barbara Volk officiated the reappointment of Dr. Eisenhauer at an informal ceremony at the Pardee Cancer Center on Monday.

In addition to Dr. Eisenhauer's role as a general, thoracic and vascular surgeon at Pardee Surgical Associates, he is also active on a regional and national level in the fight against cancer. He has been an elected Diplomat to the Commission on Cancer (CoC), representing the American College of Surgeons, since 1994. He is a surveyor for the CoC, reviewing other cancer programs nationally, and serves as chair of the Field Staff Subcommittee, tasked with training and overseeing all national surveyors. He has served as the North Carolina state chair for the CoC Cancer Liaison Program and is a member of the Ethics Committee for the American Society of Breast Surgeons. Eisenhauer has also been a featured speaker at numerous national meetings, speaking on behalf of the CoC.

The North Carolina Advisory Committee on Cancer Coordination and is a legislatively mandated committee comprised of 34 members, including but not limited to representatives from the Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Public Instruction, N.C. legislators, N.C. medical schools, the Cancer Committee of the N.C. Medical Society, Old North State Medical Society, N.C. Hospital Association, N.C. Association of Local Health Directors, Medical Directors of the NC Association of Health Plans, clinicians and cancer survivors. The ACCCC meets twice a year.

The mission of the Advisory Committee is to facilitate the reduction of cancer incidence and mortality for all North Carolinians, enhance statewide access to quality treatment and support services, and maximize quality of life for all North Carolina cancer survivors, patients, and their loved ones through educating and advising government officials, policy makers, public and private organizations, and the public.

Cooper,” Eisenhauer said. “Much of my career has been dedicated to advancing cancer treatment and providing excellent cancer care here in our community. I look forward to continuing to serve our state in this role and hope to benefit cancer care locally, statewide and beyond.”
