IAM receives $50,000 for Stimulus Check Challenge campaign

Interfaith Assistance Ministry received a $50,000 donation for its covid-19/Stimulus Check Challenge. The donors have asked to remain anonymous but want to challenge the community to match the $50,000 donation.

The donors expressed their gratitude for the crisis services IAM provides to Henderson County residents who are struggling to make ends meet during the added challenges of job losses and illness during the coronavirus pandemic, said Elizabeth Willson Moss, IAM Executive Director

“IAM is blessed to have the resources provided through this challenge to continue serving local Henderson County families and individuals in crisis during this ongoing health crisis,” Moss said. “This donation will help prevent new homelessness from workers who have lost their jobs and need assistance with a rent payment. It will also help residents keep the power and utilities on, provide seven days of nutritious food to every family member, help fill vital prescriptions, provide gasoline vouchers and bus tickets for transportation, personal hygiene items, pet food and other basic needs.”

"IAM and the neighbors we help appreciate the heart-felt generosity of the Henderson County community to this challenge,” Moss said. “Donors have donated their stimulus checks, their social security checks and other funds to area residents who struggle to survive in non-pandemic times.”

Through May, IAM has spent 44 percent more on crisis services than during the same five-month period last year, Moss added.

If you would like to give back to residents in need, send an unrestricted check to IAM, drop one off or donate online to help the agency meet the Covid-19/Stimulus Check Challenge goal of $500,000 started by Dolph Diamond of radio station WHFC 104.7 FM of Hendersonville and 106.5 FM, Asheville. Donations may be made online by going to www.iam-hc.org/donate or by mail to P.O. Box 2562, Hendersonville, NC, 28792.
