Shelby Hensley, the 10-year-old daughter of Kevin and Jennifer Hensley of Hendersonville, won a Silver medal in Giant Slalom racing in Aspen, Colorado, this month.

After taking a year off last season due to the pandemic, the Nationals were held April 5-10 in a modified format and with Covid precautions required by Pitkin County, home to Aspen Snowmass’s four ski resorts. Shelby qualified for the national competition by medaling in the Silver Division of Nastar in her age bracket. She competes in the 10 and 11 year old youth girls division throughout her season of racing for the Boone-based Sugar Mountain Ski Team. In Aspen she also competed in the Slalom race, missing the podium by just a tenth of a second. Shelby attends fifth grade at Immaculata Catholic School.
