Mother charged with murder in stabbing death of daughter

A 50-year-old woman was charged with murder in the stabbing death of her 5-year-old daughter Sunday in Fruitland, the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office said.

Sheriff's deputies and emergency workers responding to a call to 265 Fiesta Lake 8:43 a.m. Sunday  found that the child had died of the injuries she received. As a result of the investigation, it was determined the suspect of the stabbing was the mother of the child.

Penny Short Hartle, 50 of Hendersonville, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. She was jailed without bond and scheduled for a first appearance in Henderson County District Court on Monday morning.
