WCCA to open Tebeau Drive child care center

Western Carolina Community Action was recently awarded a $25,000 grant by the Perry N. Rudnick Endowment Fund of the Community Foundation of Henderson County.

The funds will be used to help renovate and save the 70-year-old Tebeau Children’s Center in Hendersonville. Generations of Henderson County children have attended the privately-owned daycare formerly known as Stay ‘n Play, then Lovin’ & Learning, and the Hendersonville School for Little Folks.

WCCA bought the Tebeau Drive property last October and has spent the year working with architects and civil engineers to develop renovation plans, submitting grants and doing fundraising to transform the old building into a modern early childhood education facility that will serve 94 children ages 0-5yrs. WCCA plans to offer Early Head Start, Head Start and NC Pre-K programs at the Tebeau Children’s Center.

“We’re grateful to partner with a group like the Perry N. Rudnick Endowment Fund and the Henderson County Community Foundation to save a piece of Henderson County’s past," David White, CEO for Western Carolina Community Action, said. "The community desperately needs this resource. Their support is an investment in future generations of our children.”

WCCA has raised just over $402,000 of the $850,000 needed to renovate the Tebeau Center in time for its opening in April 2022. To donate visit
