Apodaca to lead Insurance Committee again

State Sen. Tom Apodaca, the powerful Senate Rules Committee chairman from Hendersonville, has added a second chairmanship to his duties for the 2013-14 legislative term.

Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) announced Wednesday the reappointment of Apodaca and Sen. Wesley Meredith (R-Cumberland) as co-chairmen of the Senate Insurance Committee.

"Under Sen. Apodaca and Sen. Meredith's leadership, the Senate Insurance Committee has kept our state's homeowner insurance rates competitive and has ensured we have one of the lowest automobile insurance rates in the country," Berger said. "This committee's work affects all of our citizens, and I know these senators will continue to act in their best interest."

Apodaca, a former bail bondsman and the owner of a sureties bonding company, was first elected to the Senate in 2002.
