What do you do in your volunteer job?
I run the register. Since I’m the first person people see, when they have questions they come to me. There is a lot of stuff that has to be packaged. I separate that stuff and put it into bags so that it can be sold.

How long have you been volunteering?
About five years.

Why do you volunteer?
I want to keep busy, that’s all. It fills two needs for me, people interaction and the need to keep busy. I’d rather work than not. That is my fun.

What’s the best thing about volunteering?
It helps people. It gives Habitat the money to build homes for the homeless because that is what they’re all about.

If someone is interested in volunteering, what advice would you give based on your own experience?
Here’s the deal for me. Try it out. They need volunteers. Very few people volunteer. For me, it’s fun. If you have any desire to volunteer, you can’t go wrong. My suggestion is see what is offered and give it a try. The worst that can happen is they don’t like it and quit.
