County invites public input on spending $22.8 million in rescue money

The Henderson County Board of Commissioners will take public comment on Wednesday morning about how the county should spend $22.8 million in American Rescue Plan money.

Immediately following the regular informal public comment time at the top of the meeting, the board will hear from the community to help determine priorities for the use of ARP funding. The input session, the board said, is not intended for groups to make requests for funding but for the board to hear feedback from the community. Additional information on the American Rescue Plan, the Final Rule from the Department of Treasury can be found at here.

Local government bodies are allowed to spend ARP money to:
• Contain Covid-19 and address other public needs
• Invest in water and sewer infrastructure
• Grant premium pay for essential workers
• Replace revenue lost because of the pandemic
• Address negative economic impacts that people or businesses have had.

All ARP money must be appropriated by December 2024 and spent by December 2026.
