Foundation invites nominations for Sauer, Marlow awards

The Community Foundation of Henderson County is currently accepting nominations for its 2022 Richard C. and Vina L. Sauer Charitable Leadership Award and Dorothy “Dot” Dellinger Marlow Philanthropic Catalyst Award.

The Sauer Award celebrates individuals who provide exceptional contributions and outstanding leadership through their personal philanthropic efforts in Henderson County while the Marlow Award recognizes selfless leadership in charitable volunteer work.

Award qualification details and online nomination forms can be found at cfhcforever.org. This year’s applications have been streamlined to a simple online form located on the foundation’s website. Videos and stories of previous recipients can also be found on the “Distinguished Philanthropists” page. Nominations will be accepted until Friday, May 6. This year’s awards will be presented at Community Foundation of Henderson County’s Annual Luncheon at Jeter Mountain Farm on Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Richard C. and Vina L. Sauer Charitable Leadership Award
Throughout their lives, Richard Sauer and wife Vina came to view every challenge as an opportunity to inspire positive change. In 1992, the couple made the first-ever million dollar gift in Community Foundation’s history with the intention of supporting various causes close to their hearts including assisting high school seniors in their pursuit of higher education. Richard and Vina are long remembered for their modesty – routinely giving support to their community without the need or want for recognition. In 1994, the Foundation established the prestigious Sauer Award to honor the couple’s philanthropic legacy.

Dorothy “Dot” Dellinger Marlow Philanthropic Catalyst Award
When reflecting on the Henderson County community’s philanthropic spirit, the organization’s “Founding Lady” Dot Marlow continues to inspire charitable hearts through her legacy. Dot joined Community Foundation at a pivotal time, serving as the first female board member and bringing with her the spark that would ignite decades of community giving. The Dorothy “Dot” Dellinger Marlow Philanthropic Catalyst Award honors Dot’s selfless volunteer leadership in philanthropic work for our community’s greater good. It is awarded to someone who continually advocates for others and works so that everyone can become their best self. Like Dot’s tireless enthusiasm to better the community, each recipient reflects her extraordinary spirit.

Nominees for the awards must be living residents of Henderson County. Committees, corporations, and organizations are not eligible.
