Old-Fashioned Christmas, nighttime parade, tour of inns and more highlight the season

Carriage rides on Main Street are among numerous Home for the Holidays events happening in and around Hendersonville in the coming weeks.

Santa returns to the Historic Courthouse Plaza the evening of Friday, Dec. 2, as part of the Old-Fashioned Christmas celebration hosted by downtown merchants. Next day, the Christmas parade debuts its new nighttime slot with a 6 p.m. start. Other events include the Holiday Tour of Inns & Cookie Caper on Dec. 11, the 16th annual Gingerbread Cookie Contest at Narnia Studios, the popular Peppermint Bear Scavenger Hunt, candlelight Christmas tours at Historic Johnson Farm, Christmas shows at the Flat Rock Playhouse and  numerous other holiday music performances.

The festivities close with the family-friendly New Year’s Eve Apple Rise on Dec. 31 from 5-7 p.m. at the Courthouse Plaza. Instead of dropping an item at midnight, the event pays homage to the apple industry by raising a giant apple at 7 p.m., which allows families with young children to celebrate an early New Year’s Eve countdown.
