NHHS students, staff mourn loss of classmate, 17, killed in crash

School psychologists, school social workers and school counselors made themselves available for North Henderson High School students Friday mourning the death of a 17-year-old senior in a head-on crash that also seriously injured a classmate and a 2022 NHHS graduate on Thursday afternoon.

"Our hearts are heavy as our district mourns the loss of Madison Crawford," the school system said in a news release. "We are deeply saddened by the passing of this young woman as a result of a head-on collision that occurred Thursday afternoon. Our thoughts and prayers are with Madison’s family and the families of all who were involved in this tragic event."

Kimisa Buchanan, a junior, and Robert “Xander” Lunsford, a 2022 graduate, were also in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Both were transported to Mission Hospital, where they remained on Friday. Their condition was not released.

WLOS-TV reported that a Dodge Dakota driven by Michael Travalini, 56, crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Ford Ranger driven by Lunsford, 18. Travalini was transported to Pardee Hospital before being transferred to Mission Hospital, WLOS reported.
