The Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County announced Tuesday that it has hired a new chief executive officer to lead the growing youth club.
The Board of Directors voted unanimously to name Carolyn Ashworth its CEO effective May 8 after conducting a search process with the assistance of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s CEO Search Team.
Most recently, Ashworth served as executive director of the Pollination Project Foundation, a global grantmaking foundation providing seed funding and capacity-building support to grassroots volunteer leaders in 121 countries.
Ashworth returns to her roots in serving the children and families of Western North Carolina. She previously worked for the Asheville-based Eliada Foundation, developing programs and funding streams that support high-risk and vulnerable youth. Ashworth served as the director of Community Engagement for Creating a Family, the national adoption and foster care education & support non-profit. In this role, she worked in partnership with social service agencies to improve foster parent recruitment and retention.
“For me, this is absolutely a dream job," Ashworth said. "Working in the communities I hold most dear, towards the wellbeing of children and teens, is such a privilege. Given the strength and talent of the board and staff of this Club in particular, I could not ask for a better professional home.”
As CEO, Ashworth will lead the organization’s strategic direction, oversight of organizational operations, financials, programming, brand reputation, talent recruitment, resource development and stakeholder relationships. The CEO also serves as the organization’s primary ambassador and lead communicator. The CEO reports to the executive committee of the club's board of directors.
