Jim Lauderdale is featured performer for JAM Kids fundraiser

Jim Lauderdale

Singer-songwriter Jim Lauderdale is once again the featured performer for an annual special fundraising concert for the JAM Kids (Junior Appalachian Musicians) of Henderson County program at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Trailside Brewing, 873 Lennox Park Drive.

A two-time Grammy Award winner, Lauderdale has a long history in the mountains. The son of a Presbyterian minister and a music teacher, Lauderdale fell in love with bluegrass music early on and at age 13 took banjo lessons at Jim and Arlene Kesterson’s Mountain Folkways Center. During high school summer breaks, he worked at the Flat Rock Playhouse. A graduate of the N.C. School of the Arts, he’s worked with many greats of Americana music and has recorded 34 albums. He’s known for his songwriting skills — George Strait recorded 15 of his songs — his retro classic country looks and show-stopping vocals.
The JAM Kids program teaches bluegrass and oldtime music through small group instruction to students ranging in age from 8-16. The JAM kids sponsor, the French Broad Valley Music Association, is a 501-c-3 nonprofit formed in 2016 to promote and preserve local mountain music and culture.

General admission is $30, VIP Plus $100 and VIP $50. Purchase here in advance. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door.  For more information on the French Broad Valley Music Association click here.
