After chance of ice, we're in for a cold week

Although western-most counties in the N.C. mountains look to be in for a snow pileup, the biggest risk in the French Broad River Valley is a chance of freezing rain and icy roads early Monday. After that, bundle up. We'll see the coldest overnight lows of the year so far.
There's a slight chance of freezing rain and sleet before 10 a.m. on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a slight chance of snow for the next hour, changing to rain after that. Otherwise, Monday is forecast to be mostly cloudy, with a high near 43. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent and little or no snow and sleet accumulation expected, the National Weather Service said.

The deep freeze arrives overnight Tuesday night when the low is expected to plunge to around 14. It stays a while: Lows are forecast to be 21 Wednesday night, 29 Thursday night, 14 Friday night and 12 Saturday night.
