Hal Linden, Marilu Henner star in 'Journals of Adam and Eve' at Playhouse

Hal Linden and Marilu Henner star in 'Journals of Adam and Eve' at Playhouse April 11-14.

For the first time in their own words, “The Journals of Adam and Eve” will tell the true story of the legendary couple — the world’s first love story — as only they could tell it.

The performance at Flat Rock Playhouse portrays their journey from Eden to exile — from their first date to their twilight years, from bachelor and bachelorette, to becoming the world’s first parents.

Legendary television writer Ed Weinberger wrote and produced for “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” and co-created “Taxi,” “Dear John,” “Amen,” and “The Cosby Show.” During his acclaimed career, Weinberger has written for such diverse comedians as Bob Hope, Richard Pryor and Johnny Carson (for five years on “The Tonight Show”); he began his career in the early ’60s with Dick Gregory. He has been honored with three Golden Globe Awards, a Peabody, and nine Emmy Awards. In 2000, he received The Writer’s Guild of America Lifetime Achievement Award.

“Weinberger hasn’t lost his knack for the dynamics of comedy writing, veering between pleasing schtick and heartfelt philosophizing in the right measure,” Variety said of the recent world-premiere performance in Los Angeles.

Hal Linden returns to the Playhouse for the first time since the world premiere of "Two Jews Talking" in 2022.

“Except for my family, no one treated me as good as the people at Flat Rock,” he said.

An actor, singer, and musician whose career has spanned more that 65 years on stage (Tony Award winner for Best Actor In a Musical), television and film, Linden is perhaps best known for his portrayal of the police Capt. Barney Miller in the hit television series that aired on ABC from 1975-1982, earning multiple Golden Globe and Emmy nominations.

Marilu Henner has starred in seven Broadway shows (Gettin’ the Band Back Together, Tale of the Allergist’s Wife, Chicago, Social Security, Pal Joey, Over Here and Grease); 76 films including LA Story and Noises Off, 31 Hallmark movies; three national tours and two hit classic sitcoms (Taxi and Evening Shade). A five-time Golden Globe Nominee, she is also a New York Times best-selling author of 10 books on health, parenting, memory and lifestyle improvement. Along with hosting her own nationally syndicated radio show, The Marilu Henner Show, Marilu has hosted and produced two talk shows (Marilu and Shape Up Your Life).

Do not miss your chance to see the stage and screen legends up close and personal before "The Journals of Adam and Eve" makes its way to New York City. Innumerable belly laughs and a heart-felt tear or two are in store for the East Coast premiere of the staged reading.

The show runs for five performances only April 11-14. Tickets go on sale starting Wednesday, March 13, at flatrockplayhouse.org.
