League of Women Voters presents Chris Cooper program on politics

The Henderson County League of Women Voters will host Chris Cooper, political science and public affairs professor at Western Carolina University and a specialist on North Carolina politics, in a lunchtime talk Tuesday, July 23, at First Congregational Church, 1735 Fifth Avenue W.

Guests are invited to bring their own lunch; beverages and sweets will be provided. The event starts at 11:30 a.m. The program begins at noon. The talk is free and open to the public. For more information visit lwvhcnc.org.

Robert Lee Madison Distinguished Professor and director of the Haire Institute for Public Policy at Western Carolina University, Cooper is the co-author of The Resilience of Southern Identity: Why the South Still Matters in the Minds of its People, co-editor of The New Politics of North Carolina and author of the forthcoming Anatomy of a Purple State: A North Carolina Politics Primer — all from UNC Press — as well as more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles. He has served as an expert witness on elections and voting rights cases and is a frequent source for journalists seeking expertise or a snappy quote about American, Southern and North Carolina politics.
