Laurel Park swears in new town manager

New Laurel Park Town Manager Cara R. Reeves (right) was sworn into office Tuesday by Mayor Carey O’Cain (left) while her husband, Talmadge, (center) holds the Bible.

Laurel Park’s new Town Manager Cara R. Reeves on Wednesday said she is eager to continue learning about the town and its residents.

“I’m excited for the opportunity,” she said. “It’s a great group of people and we’ve all got the same mission.”
Mayor Carey O’Cain swore Reeves in as town manager on Tuesday during a ceremony at Town Hall.
Reeve’s husband, Talmadge, held the Bible for her as she was sworn in. He is an assistant district attorney in the local prosecutor’s office.
Laurel Park and Henderson County officials attended a reception for Reeves along with town residents after the swearing in ceremony. Many shook her hand and wished her good luck in her new job.
Reeves, 31, began working for Laurel Park in April and had served as assistant to the town manager and zoning administrator before she took over as interim town manager in June just one day after former town manager Alex Carmichael resigned.
Reeves said she was surprised by Carmichael’s resignation but also grateful for the opportunity to work directly with town council and learn more about projects in Laurel Park.
So far, Reeves said she has learned that each of the five council members have different strengths.
“It’s nice to get to know each of the character traits they bring to the table,” she said.
Reeves moved to the mountains from New England with her husband after working in municipal government since 2018. Her professional experience includes serving as deputy village clerk, community planner and human resources director. Reeves holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies as well as a master’s degree in public administration, according to information on the town’s website.
When she is not at work, Reeves said she and her husband enjoy being outside, visiting with family and checking out new restaurants in the area.
