Columbia, S.C., man dies after suffering 'medical distress' on Blue Ridge Parkway

A 58-year-old man from Columbia, S.C., died in an ambulance en route to a hospital after Blue Ridge Parkway rangers responded to a  report of a man in medical distress near the Graveyard Fields overlook trailhead, the  National Park Service said.

Parkway rangers and Haywood County EMS responding to the emergency call at 3:52 p.m. Sunday found Muhammad Sultan suffering from medical complications, which led first responders to administer CPR on site. Sultan was pronounced deceased in the ambulance enroute to Haywood Regional Hospital, the NPS said. No additional details were available when the agency issued the news release.
