Carriage Park developer seeks to add 18 homes

Carriage Park could grow by 18 homes if county regulators and the Henderson County Planning Board OK the newest phase this week.

Already one of the largest subdivisions in Henderson County, the gated community on a ridge off Haywood Road would contain more than 650 dwellings if the new permit wins approval.

Cool Creek LLC and engineers Jesse Gardner and Michael Cain, of Civil Design Concepts, applied on Aug. 29 for permission to add the 18 lots for single-family dwellings, 12 served by a new private road and six by the existing Carriage Park Way. The new phase covering 8.6 acres is in the lower part of the development, fronting Haywood Road.

Carriage Park was originally approved by the Henderson County Board of Commissioners in October 1993 as a planned unit development under a special-use permit. The permit for the 392.3-acre subdivision allowed 695 dwelling units. If the county OKs 18 new lots — in what would be the seventh amendment of the 1993 special-use permit — Carriage Park will stand at 656 dwellings. The special-use permit OK'd by the board of commissioners granted the planning board authority to approve future development amendments.

The county Technical Review Committee will review the request to ensure that it has fire and rescue access, stormwater management and erosion control and traffic control and meets other health and safety regulations. The TRC meets at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the county building at 100 N. King St., then comes before the Henderson County Planning Board at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, also at the King Street building.
