Girls on the Run 5K hopes to promote health and empowerment

Families, friends and runners are invited to participate in the Girls on the Run Fall Season Celebratory 5K on Sunday, Nov. 23.

Sponsored by AdventHealth and hosted at the Tanger Outlets, the fun-filled family event aims to promote health, fitness and empowerment for young girls in the community, organizers said.
The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and begins at the Tanger Asheville 5K Village located in the parking lot of the Nike Entrance (facing I-26) at 800 Brevard Road, Asheville, N.C., 28806, GOTR said.
The Girls on the Run Village opens at 8:00 a.m., featuring hands-on fun for the whole family, including a LEGO station, chalk art, bib decorating and the always-popular Happy Hair station. Local vendors and sponsors will bring extra community spirit and support.
Runners will take off at 9:30 a.m.
This year the race will include the addition of a 1-mile run named the
Mountain Mover Mile, which is designed to make GOTR accessible for youth and community members who may need accommodation and would like to participate, but a full 5K may not be attainable. The Mountain Mover Mile will begin at 9:40 a.m.
Hundreds of girls, families, coaches, and community members are expected to lace up their sneakers for this celebration of confidence connection and joy. Community runners who wish to support Girls on the Run programs are welcome to participate.
Girls on the Run Western North Carolina is a non-profit organization
that inspires young girls to be confident and healthy through an interactive curriculum that incorporates running.
The GOTR Fall 5K is made possible through the support of AdventHealth, the event's presenting sponsor, and community partners MSC Industrial, Hunter Subaru and Run 828 Foundation.
