Smoke from fires in Pisgah National Forest could be seen from the Cummings Cove area of Henderson County on Friday after the U.S. Forest Service conducted a prescribed burn.
The Pisgah National Forest conducted a prescribed burn on 1200 acres on Friday.
The work will continue throughout the day as weather conditions allow, according to information from the U.S. Forest Service.
Prescribed fires help reduce overgrown vegetation to aid in protecting local communities, infrastructure and natural resources from wildfires.
Prescribed fires planned for the area include:
• Coontree Rec Area
• Coontree Loop Trail
• Bennett Gap Trail
• Avery Creek Road (including designated roadside campsites)
• Pisgah Riding Stables
Depending on conditions, these areas may be closed until the end of Saturday for public safety.
Watch for warning signs along roads near all prescribed fire areas before and during burns, the forest service said.
