Investigators in Hendersonville are working to determine a cause of death after human skeletal remains were found this week off Highlands Square Drive, according to a press release from the city.
Officials on Wednesday said they had notified the deceased person’s next of kin but asked that the person’s name not be reported publicly until a scientific identification is confirmed.
Hendersonville Police Department officers began an investigation on Tuesday after the remains were located in a wooded area off the drive that leads to the Walmart Supercenter in town.
A medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death, but investigators do not believe the death to be suspicious at this time, the city said.
North Carolina’s State Bureau of Investigation is helping with the full recovery of the remains.
