Blakely to seek re-election as Fletcher mayor

Preston Blakely plans to seek re-election to a second term as mayor of Fletcher.

Blakely has been serving Fletcher since 2019 when he was elected to represent District 2 in Fletcher. Subsequently, he was elected mayor in 2021. (City council members and mayors got a bonus year in office when the state Legislature shifted municipal elections from odd to even years.)

Blakely has been focused on supporting parks and recreation, community engagement, working on Fletcher’s Town Center Project, and supporting our region’s recovery after Hurricane Helene.

“It has been the honor of my life to serve Fletcher as mayor,” said Blakely. “We have accomplished much, and I am proud of our Council, staff, and community. We have supported our parks and infrastructure, worked to recover after Hurricane Helene and so much more! I am grateful to work with a cohesive, diligent council and staff. ”

During his first term he championed:

• Fletcher Town Center—Making meaningful progress towards our Heart of Fletcher.

• Parks and Recreation—Supporting investments in parks.

• Community Engagement—Prioritizing open communication and making town government accessible.

• Disaster Recovery—Being involved in recovery for the entire region. Advocating resources for our collective recovery.

• Town Staff—Ensuring town staff were supported to the best of town’s abilities.

Blakely, a lifelong resident of Fletcher serves on many boards including the Governors Recovery Office for Western North Carolina Advisory Committee, Land of Sky Regional Council Board of Delegates, nonprofit boards in our region, among many others.
