Ramae Cynquan Foster
A suspect who struck a Brevard police officer in the face then drove off in her police cruiser was apprehended after a multi-agency chase that ended on I-26 near the Upward Road, the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office said.
The Brevard officer sustained minor injuries after she was socked in the face by an individual she was attempting to detain after responding to a call near Burrell Avenue and Peace Drive. Brevard officers on the scene including the one who was hit in the face pursued the vehicle into Mills River before Henderson County Sheriff’s deputies, the State Highway Patrol and Fletcher, Hendersonville and Asheville Airport police joined the pursuit.
Deputies used a precision immobilization technique during the pursuit, which disabled the fleeing vehicle near exit 53. No one was injured as a result of the PIT maneuver, though Henderson County deputies encountered resistance from the 260-pound 6-1 suspect, who was subsequently arrested. Ramae Cynquan Foster was jailed in the Henderson County Detention Center under a $75,000 bond and charged with fleeing to elude arrest, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, reckless driving endangering the public, resisting an officer, running a stoplight and wrong-way driving.
All Brevard officers involved are expected to return to work soon, and the agency has verified that all equipment and weapons have been recovered from Brevard’s vehicle. The city of Brevard thanked the Transylvania, Buncombe and Henderson county sheriff’s offices, Hendersonville and Fletcher police, the State Highway Patrol and Asheville Airport Police Department for their rapid response and assistance.
