No serious injuries in experimental aircraft crash

No serious injuries were reported after an experimental aircraft crashed at the Hendersonville Airport on Sunday.

Emergency crews responded to the airport at about 4 p.m. after they received reports that the aircraft had crashed into some trees near the airport’s runway, Blue Ridge Fire and Rescue Chief Will Sheehan said.
A man in the aircraft suffered minor injuries in the crash and was treated at the scene.
Investigators on Sunday were looking into the crash and trying to piece together what happened. Sheehan said he was unsure if the experimental aircraft, which he described as about the size of a small Cessna, was trying to take off or land at the airport.
Blue Ridge responded to the incident along with personnel from Henderson County’s Rescue Squad, EMS and Sheriff’s Office. The North Carolina Highway Patrol assisted in the response. The Federal Aviation Administration was also contacted about the accident.
