Detectives charge man in connection with email scam

Henderson County sheriff’s detectives charged a 64-year-old man on Tuesday in connection with an email scam involving people falsely posing as representatives of PayPal, the sheriff’s office said.

Based on information provided by a reporting party, detectives carried out a coordinated operation that led to the arrest of Ronny Johnson. Throughout the investigation, the suspect was identified as allegedly being involved in a broader fraudulent scheme. With the assistance of the Violent Crimes Unit and the ACE unit, Johnson was apprehended without incident. Charged with two counts of felony aiding and abetting, he remained jailed at the Henderson County Detention Center on Tuesday night under an $80,000 bond.
