Deputies catch suspect after Mills River bank robbery

Law officers responding to a 911 call reporting a robbery in progress at Champion Credit Union in Mills River on Thursday morning were soon able to identify a suspect, whom they found and arrested that night at a hotel in Hendersonville, the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office said.


Sheriff's deputies and detectives responded quickly to the call at 11:20 a.m. and, during the course of the investigation, including scene processing and witness interviews, identified a suspect. With the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force and the SBI, the suspect, officers located the suspect, David Allen Kuhlman, at a hotel in Hendersonville. Kuhlman, 58, of Fletcher, was taken into custody without incident at approximately 8:30 p.m. Charged with a felony count of robbing the credit union of $2,500, he was jailed at the Henderson County Detention Center under a $100,000 bond.

The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Marshals Service and the SBI for their prompt response and assistance in the investigation.
