Photo exhibit opens Friday East Flat Rock studio

David Day and his dog, Oliver Wendell Day, pose with 'Violinist.'

Studio 116 will present a special exhibition of works by artist David Day opening Friday, May 1, and featuring an artist talk at 6:45 p.m. with a portion of proceeds benefiting the Blue Ridge Humane Society. The opening reception is 6-8 p.m.

Based in Flat Rock, Day is internationally recognized for his innovative use of intentional camera movement in the studio, creating abstract images that blend motion, emotion and texture. The exhibition will feature approximately 100 works produced over the past five years, offering a rare, expansive look at his evolving practice.

During the reception, David will also host a signing of his newly released book, The Emotional Residue of Dreams, his fourth publication exploring the art and technique of intentional camera movement photography.

During the exhibition “Violinist” by Oliver Wendell Day will be auctioned off to raise funds for the Blue Ridge Humane Society.  “Violinist” is an image produced in the D’Day Photo Art studio by Oliver Wendell Day, a dog. It is likely the only ICM image ever made by a dog, and sure to be a conversation starter for anyone desiring to display the image in the home or office.
