Habitat for Humanity names new CEO

Emily Fernald has been named chief executive officer of Henderson County & Thermal Belt Habitat for Humanity, moving up from her role as vice president of programs, the nonprofit announced.

Fernald, who joined the organization earlier this year, and brings more than 15 years of Habitat for Humanity leadership experience to the role. Prior to joining our affiliate, she served with Central South Carolina Habitat for Humanity as homeowner services director and interim executive director.

Her connection to Habitat’s mission began during a college Spring Break Habitat build and continued through her service as an AmeriCorps member, launching a career dedicated to expanding access to safe, affordable housing.

“Emily joined our organization in February, and in her short time with us, has been deeply engaged in our homebuilding, repair, and disaster recovery efforts, and has quickly built relationships with staff, volunteers, and partners across our community,” said Linda Saturno, outgoing President and CEO of Henderson County & Thermal Belt Habitat. “Her experience, values, and vision align closely with this organization and its future.”

Since joining the affiliate, Fernald has already played a key role in supporting ongoing affordable housing initiatives, disaster recovery efforts, and the continued growth of the organization’s programs across Henderson County, Polk County and Landrum, S.C.

“I am honored to step into the CEO role and continue advancing our mission,” Fernald said. “The need for affordable homeownership in Western North Carolina is greater now than ever, and I am deeply committed to building better and brighter futures. Healthy communities start with a home, and I look forward to growing stronger partnerships to expand our impact, together.”
