Diocese of Charlotte ordains 10 into priesthood

The Diocese of Charlotte on Saturday ordained a record 10 men into the priesthood.

The Diocese of Charlotte on Saturday ordained a record 10 men into the priesthood, the highest number in its 54-year history and among the highest number to be ordained by any diocese nationally this year.

Each new priest was assigned to serve a church or campus across the 46 counties of the diocese, which amid rapid growth now encompasses 575,000 Catholics, 93 churches and nearly 150 priests in the western half of North Carolina. Appointments involving area Catholic churches were:

  • Father Daniel Chaves Peña: home parish, Immaculate Conception, Hendersonville; appointed to Parochial Vicar of Immaculate Conception Parish.
  • Father Juan González Hernández: home parish, Immaculate Conception, Hendersonville; appointed to Parochial Vicar of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Monroe.
  • Father James Tweed: home parish, Sacred Heart, Brevard; appointed to Parochial Vicar serving the faithful at the Catholic Community of Waxhaw.
