Bike plan survey now open

The city of Hendersonville is seeking public input as planners draft Bike Hendo, a new bicycle plan intended to guide future biking and rolling infrastructure in the city.

The plan will build on the success of the Ecusta Trail and help direct future investments in Hendersonville’s bicycle network, addressing transportation, recreation and everyday trips.

“Bike Hendo will help us create a safer, more connected transportation network,” said Matthew Manley, the city’s long-range planning manager. “Community input is essential to making sure this plan reflects where people want to go, what challenges they face, and how we can make biking and rolling in Hendersonville more accessible for everyone.”

Community members are invited to a drop-in public meeting from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at Trailside Brewing, 873 Lennox Park Drive. Riders can share where they currently bike, where they’d like to bike and what makes biking difficult. Those who ride to the meeting may enter a raffle. An online survey that launches today will remain open through July.

A steering committee — the Pedal Committee — held a kickoff meeting in May and is guiding the process along with city staff and planning consultants.

The Bike Hendo plan is expected to be completed by summer or fall 2027. Once adopted, the city and the N.C. Department of Transportation can use it to guide projects, policy, programs and funding. For more information, visit hvlnc.gov/BikeHendo.
