Biltmore Square transforming into outlet mall next year

Biltmore Square Mall will become an outlet mall next year, a developer says.

The struggling mall in south Asheville will be developed into a 325,000-square-foot open-air center featuring top manufacturers and retail outlets, reports said.
"With no other outlet center within 80 miles, the retailers at Asheville Outlets are sure to thrive from the strong residential and tourism markets," the New England Development Group said on its website. New England developer
A mall tenant also confirmed the end of the mall's life as a traditional indoor shopping center.
"The Health Adventure received news on Friday, May 10, that the Biltmore Square Mall will be transformed into an outdoor outlet center," the non-profit group said. " The Health Adventure relocated to the Biltmore Square Mall in November 2011 and has since experienced increased growth in visitation and memberships. The mall location has proven to be popular for the Health Adventure for many reasons that include access off of I-26 and plentiful free parking."
The Health Adventure said in the news release it had not been given an exact date to vacate the property but was told that the last date the old mall would be open is Dec. 31.
