As peak tomato season nears, the Hendersonville Farmers Market is celebrating one of its favorite annual traditions.
Shoppers are invited to join the fun during the market's annual Tomato Day Celebration on Saturday, July 25, at the Historic Train Depot, 650 Maple Street.
Market vendors will offer an incredible selection of locally grown tomatoes and specialty varieties in a wide range of shapes, sizes and flavors. Shoppers will also find fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, baked goods, coffee, flowers, plants, artisan crafts and other locally produced goods.
Live music will be provided by Jacob Dunham, creating the perfect soundtrack for a summer morning at the market.
Tomato-themed activities throughout the day include:
Enjoy a complimentary half-sized tomato sandwich while supplies last, made the classic way with fresh Henderson County tomatoes, bread, and Duke's mayonnaise. Watch and thank our volunteers for assembling these sandwiches fresh throughout the morning.
Cast your vote for your favorite tomato in the market's annual Tomato Beauty Pageant, where local growers will showcase some of their biggest, brightest, and most unique tomatoes of the season.
Keep an eye out for Terrye Tomato, the market's cheerful tomato mascot! Terrye Tomato will be strolling around the market, greeting shoppers, posing for photos, and spreading plenty of tomato cheer throughout the morning.
Continue the fun beyond the market with Flat Terrye Tomato's 7th Avenue Adventure! Pick up a free Flat Terrye Tomato at the Hendersonville Farmers Market, color your tomato, then take Terrye on an adventure through the 7th Avenue District. Visit participating businesses along the way to collect passport stamps while exploring downtown's creative edge! It's a fun, self-guided activity that encourages visitors of all ages to discover everything the 7th Avenue District has to offer while celebrating one of Hendersonville's favorite summer traditions.
The Hendersonville Farmers Market is held 8 a.m.-1 p.m. every Saturday from May through October at the Historic Train Depot on Maple Street. The producer-only market features local farms, food producers, artisans and specialty vendors from across the region.
