Dana man charged with 26 counts of animal cruelty

Animal enforcement officers with the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office charged a 68-year-old Dana man with 26 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty on Monday after responding to a call in reference to a welfare check on animals.

During the course of the investigation, deputies identified Timothy Hefner, of 252 Crestview Hills Lane, as the person responsible for the 26 dogs. He was subsequently charged with animal cruelty for allegedly keeping the dogs in inhumane conditions. Hefner remained jailed at the Henderson County Detention Center under a $25,000 bond on Thursday.
The dogs are now being cared for but are not currently available for adoption, the sheriff’s office said.
The animal enforcement squad investigates all allegations of animal cruelty thoroughly and seeks justice for mistreated animals when violations of law are found.
Sheriff Lowell Griffin extended his appreciation to the animal enforcement team and members of the community for their vigilance in reporting concerns that help protect animals in Henderson County.
