Farm City Day is Saturday

Henderson County will celebrate Farm City Day Saturday, Oct. 3 with music, food and a variety of activities that showcase farmers in the area.

Sponsored by Harry’s on the Hill GMC, the event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Jackson Park is offered by Henderson County’s North Carolina Cooperative Extension Office and other community partners.
Farm City Day is at long-standing autumn tradition taking place across 50 acres in the park. It bridges rural heritage and urban community life with a full day of hands-on agricultural education, live entertainment, local vendors and family activities, according to a press release from the cooperative extension office.
First established in 1955, Farm City Day aims to deepen agricultural awareness, especially among youth, by highlighting where local food comes from and celebrating Henderson County’s rich farming legacy.
Event Highlights and Schedule:
● 12:00 p.m. Awards Ceremony: A hallmark of Farm City Day, the noon ceremony will honor outstanding community contributions with the presentation of the Farmer of the Year and Volunteer of the Year awards.
● Live Musical Performances: The WTZQ Local Artist Showcase Stage will feature live performances throughout the day from a lineup of regional talents including:
○ Elizabeth McCorvey
○ Izzi Hughes & Andrew Thelston
○ Finkelstein 3
● Family Activities & Demonstrations: The day features antique tractor displays, old-time craft demonstrations, a farm animal petting zoo, wagon rides through the park, a fishing pond, children’s games and local food vendors.
