WHHS dancer wins 2nd Mile scholarship

Pat Shepherd and Elizabeth Owen, winner of the Pat Shepherd 2nd Mile award.

Elizabeth Owen, a West Henderson High School graduate and aspiring nurse and Disney World dancer, received the Pat Shepherd 2nd Mile Scholarship during a Pat's School of Dance recital at Hendersonville High School Auditorium.

The scholarship, awarded by the Community Foundation of Henderson County, goes each year to a graduating senior at Pat's School of Dance to further her academic education and continue their dance education.

Miss Owen plans to attend the University of Central Florida with a major in Pediatric Nursing. She also will be auditioning for Disney World and Universal Studios. Elizabeth is the daughter of Rick and Debbie Owen.

She was in the National Honor Society and HOSA, and was co-captain of the West Henderson High School dance team. She received scholarships to attend National Dance competitions in Charleston, S.C. and Las Vegas this summer, and received a full scholarship to the University of Las Vegas Ballet Intensive program this July. Miss Owen enjoys tutoring other students at the dance studio, reading, dancing and hiking.
