Arrests expected for illegal gaming at bowling alley

Sheriff's investigators expect to make arrests after serving a search warrant Wednesday night based on a citizen's tip of illegal gaming machines at the Tarheel Lanes bowling alley on Asheville Highway.

Acting on a Crime Stoppers tip, officers substantiated that people were engaged in illegal gambling activity. When they executed the search warrant on Wednesday night, state and local authorities found a private room with illegal gambling machines, the Henderson County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.

"No charges have been made," he said. "They did go in and serve a search warrant. Charges are pending and forthcoming. It’s going to be (based on) machines and things like that with different software."

Sheriff Charles McDonald said he encourages people to call Crime Stoppers when they see illegal or prohibited activity, such as gambling. The phone number is 828.697.STOP(7867).
