Flat Rock administrator graduates

FLAT ROCK — Flat Rock Village Administrator Judy Boleman graduated last week from the municipal administration program at the School of Government at UNC at Chapel Hill.

A former Flat Rock Village Council member who started as a part-time zoning administrator, Boleman became the village's first fulltime administrator in January 2013.

"It's fashioned for people in administration and management roles throughout the state with the county and municipalities," said Boleman, who has a masters degree in community mental health from the University of Georgia. "The point is to cover a broad range of state laws and regulations related to local government administration. It covered a lot of territory.
"Not only that, you get to network with professors and people who are experts in a particular field, and you get to network with people from all over the state who are actually working in these positions," she added. "That's always very helpful."
Flat Rock Mayor Bob Staton and his wife traveled to Chapel Hill for the event.
"She was totally surprised when Jo and I walked in to see her graduate," Staton said. "She was presented with a certificate a pin and they all walked across the stage just like high school graduation. There were several talks, and then Jo and I took her to lunch."
