Flat Rock celebrates park; foundation hires director

Mayor Bob Staton talks about the new park.

FLAT ROCK — Flat Rock residents and others marked the completion of a 1.3-mile walking trail and heard about the next park improvements during an Earth Day celebration of the new park.

Mayor Robert Staton talked about plans for the Park at Flat Rock during a ribbon-cutting and tree planting to mark the completion of the soft-surface walking trail. The next projects are bathrooms that are handicap accessible in the clubhouse, an educational classroom upstairs and stream erosion project in conjunction with the Highland Golf Villas neighborhood that abuts the park.
Students from Flat Rock Middle School planted a tree as part of the Earth Day event.
The Flat Rock Park and Recreation Foundation announced that it had hired Maurean Adams as its part-time executive director. Adams retired as executive director of the Children and Family Resource Center in 2011.
